Cost Guide
Bathroom Renovation Cost Galway 2026: €5,850–€10,800
Published 20 August 2026 · WEPRO Renovations
Short answer: Galway bathrooms are priced from the same published bands as the rest of the country — €1,499 for a small straightforward scope, €5,499 for a complete package, €9,999 for a luxury package. The difference is what the west coast does to a bathroom before you ever pick a tile. Moisture is the variable here, and it is the one most quotes leave out.
The bands, and what lands in each
| Scope | Entry price | Typical Galway example |
|---|---|---|
| Limited small-bathroom scope | From €499 | Downstairs WC or a partial refresh in a newer Knocknacarra house. |
| Ensuite, limited scope | From €999 | A compact ensuite in an estate house, services untouched. |
| Small straightforward bathroom | From €1,499 | Suite replaced in place, wet-area tiling, room otherwise dry and sound. |
| Complete bathroom package | From €5,499 | Older city or coastal home: build-up and ventilation addressed, then full tiling and a tanked shower zone. |
| Luxury package | From €9,999 | Large-format porcelain, underfloor heating, frameless glass, feature lighting. |
| Tiling priced on its own | From €34/m² | Tanking and tiling only, where another trade carries the first fix. |
Every one of those is a genuine minimum for that scope. The written quote follows measurements, preparation, materials and access.
Where Galway projects actually finish
Galway tracks the national average, with one local caveat: solid stone walls and ventilation work push more rooms toward the top of a band than they would elsewhere.
| Level of work | WEPRO typical | Typical Irish market |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh, layout kept | €3,150–€5,400 | €3,500–€6,000 |
| Standard full refit | €5,850–€10,800 | €6,500–€12,000 |
| Large, high-specification or wet room | €10,800–€19,800 | €12,000–€22,000 |
Market figures are the 2026 ranges published by other Irish renovation companies, checked 21 August 2026; WEPRO prices 10% under them. In Galway the honest planning advice is to budget in the upper half of your band if the room has an external solid wall — that is where the moisture work lives.
Moisture is the Galway cost driver
A bathroom in a stone-built or older solid-wall home near the coast is fighting two things at once: driven rain from outside, and the litre or two of water vapour a shower puts into the air. Handle it and the room lasts twenty years. Ignore it and the tiling is fine, the grout is fine, and there is black mould behind the sealant within a year.
What that means in a quote:
- Extraction sized to the room, ducted to outside air, ideally with humidity sensing — not a fan wired to the light that dies into a loft void.
- Wall build-up appropriate to a solid wall — insulated board where it suits the room, so the coldest surface is not the one behind the tiles.
- A waterproofing system rather than a coating, with taped junctions at corners and pipe penetrations.
- Ventilation strategy stated in writing, because the room has to work when the window is shut in February.
None of that is optional in Salthill, Barna or the older city terraces, and it is the most common reason a Galway room needs the complete package rather than the small straightforward band.
Apartments and management companies
Knocknacarra, Doughiska and the city apartment stock come with rules a house does not have. Before pricing, establish what the management company requires for waterproofing and floor build-up, what hours trades can work, how materials reach the unit, and whether drainage can be altered at all. Each of those changes either the sequence or the specification, and they are cheaper to answer at quote stage than after a stop-work email from the block manager.
Worked scope examples
Illustrative scopes rather than named projects — they show which band a room falls into and why.
1. Terrace near the city centre, solid walls. 3.5 m², insulated board to the external wall, room-sized extraction, full tiling, tanked walk-in shower. Complete-package territory from €5,499, with the moisture work rather than the tiling driving the number.
2. Apartment ensuite, Doughiska. 2.2 m², suite replaced in position, wet-area retile, acoustic and waterproofing build-up to the management company's specification, no drainage change. Small straightforward band from €1,499, plus whatever the block's build-up requirement adds.
3. Coastal family bathroom, Salthill. 5 m², bath removed for a level-access shower, large-format porcelain, underfloor heating to keep the floor dry, coastal-rated brassware and screen hardware. Luxury-package territory from €9,999.
Before you compare Galway quotes
Ask each contractor three things the price will hinge on: what the extraction specification is, what waterproofing system is being used and how far it extends, and what happens to the wall build-up on an external wall. A quote that has an answer to all three is comparable. One that has none of them is priced for a room that will not stay dry.

Frequently asked questions
The same published bands apply: from €1,499 for a small straightforward scope, €5,499 for a complete package and €9,999 for a luxury package. In Galway the variable that moves rooms up a band most often is moisture — stone-built and older city homes frequently need the wall build-up and ventilation addressed before any tile goes on.
Atlantic exposure and solid stone walls mean a bathroom can be producing more moisture than the room can clear. Fixing that is a ventilation and build-up question — extraction sized to the room, insulated board where appropriate, and a waterproofing system that does not rely on the plaster. Skipping it produces mould behind new tiles within a year.
Yes. Knocknacarra, Doughiska and the city apartment stock bring management-company rules on waterproofing and floor build-up, restricted working hours, lift access for materials and limited scope for changing drainage. All four belong in the quote rather than in a conversation on day one.
It can be, provided the floor structure will take the build-up and the room can be ventilated. On a suspended timber floor the falls are formed with a proprietary former rather than screeded, and the whole room is tanked as a system. The survey answers it before anything is ordered.
